Vinnie looks ok, no antibiotics this time. Wasted three and a half hours in emergency before any one realised we *still* hadn't seen a doctor. Doctor came ASAP and we were out of there at the four hour mark.

Glad that of all the people this happened to, it happened to someone who wasn't in a bad way. Vinnie slept through most of it, while I stared vacantly at things and John lurked. Jack was with Ma and pa as we had a family get together on. (Which is where I am now.) Had a few glasses of wine, and trying not to view the whole day as a complete waste of time.

Thanks every one for their best wishes. The worst part about today was that the couple next to us were in the middle of a miscarriage of what sounds like an ectopic pregnancy. And today seemed like baby day - all of the kids around were Vinnie's age or younger, and there were *lots* of them.
:-(

Anyway, there's another glass of wine with my name on it somewhere, and I'm going to go and find it.

Vinnie had another febrile today. And it seems this one was a textbook case, which means I didn't quite realise it for what it was. It lasted for less than a minute. And then he perked up faster than he has ever done before. We spent four hours in emergency, most of it trying to get a wee sample. Eventually, the Dr gave up and said he is obviously not in pain, and completely fine again. (We'd probably just been kissing the teddy bear again and giggling.)  So we could go. We put a nappy on him and come home, and he's weed in the ten minutes. :-)

I am so glad this did not happen last week. I was just starting to feel like things were a bit more under control. My legs weren't cramping any more until this morning, I felt healthy and not sick ill dying or having mental issues with everything, and it all seemed normal again.

As far as febriles go, this one was the easiest one yet. One minute fit and perking in 15 minutes afterwards? Hell easy. Not that it wasn't panic stricken and terrifying, it always is. But a damn sight easier than 15 - 20 minutes of fitting and 2 - 3 hour recovery times.

I guess I need to ring the specialist and let him know.

My Day )

We drove for four and a half hours and then I slept for an hour and a half. Then we went and saw some rellies, then Vinnie had a febrile convulsion and I spent all night in a hospital. John stayed with us as long as he could, and then we sent him home to get some sleep, because we still have to drive home the next day. The doctor came around at abou 11, I think, and then we went to find my rellies' house, and have some breakfast. The chalets we were in (Middltopn Beach Resort) were lovely, and I want to go back for a whole week. Albany looked good for the whole 25 minutes I got to be driven around in it, and the resort had a gorgeous spa, pool, and entertainment set up. A whole week.

So neither John nor I made it to the party that we trucked ourselves down for, and neither of us is particularly relaxed right now. Vinnie is fine, but the drs suggested we get him checked out for epilepsy as well, because there is a slight chance that he might develop it. I checked the intarweb and it says

Is a febrile convulsion a type of epilepsy?

No. The cause of a febrile convulsion is related to the feverish illness and is not due to any brain abnormality. Epilepsy causes convulsions (seizures or fits) without fever.

About 1 in 100 children who have two or more febrile convulsions develop epilepsy in later childhood. This is slightly higher than the chance of epilepsy developing in children who have not had a febrile convulsion. So, febrile convulsions and epilepsy are two separate conditions, but a very small number of children may be prone to develop both epilepsy and febrile convulsions.

Vinnie home, I am home. We're all mentally exhausted here, and John managed to beat himself up far better than I have ever managed.

I still haven't read every one's messages, and I will in a tick, but don't expect responses as I may be busy crying. :-)

Thanks every one for your support.

*edit*
I realised that some of you don't read some of my friends' blogs - so, the rough basics are this: after the day febril convulsions, Vinnie went into convulsions again at 10:30 at night, so we went stright into emergency and as he was still having his fit went straight into care. Two doctors, four nurses, all that, end result being an overnight stay, plus a second night in hospital to watch for the full 24 hours. We got hom today at 3ish, where we had a nap and some quiet time adjusting to not being in a hospital.

Vinnie had another febrile convulsion today. We were at southlands shopping centre and ended up being taken to fremantle.

Otherwise, a lovely day.
I've had two drinks, and some food (it happened just as I was heading for my third bite of lunch) so now I just feel exhausted and numb.

Also, I did buy something for the sun garden :-)
I bought some glass pebbles to set into the concrete.

Vinnie had another fit last night and we ended up in Armadale emergency with Mum, Dad, Kylie, Sarah and Ju, me and Vinnie. Since they only let one person in at a time, this meant a crowded waiting room outside. Vinnie got admitted overnight, so I am completely shattered and exhausted. He has antibiotics for a couple of things that might be the problem, and again it seems to have been a febrile convulsion due to virus. I slept on a couchy thing, so I am stiff and sore in odd places. For what sleep I did get. I am also sore and stiff because Vinnie needed lots of holding last night, and he seemed to take longer to recover than he did the first time. I guess a part of that is because the first time was during the day and wakeful time, whereas last night was night time and he had been asleep when it happened. Poor little bunny.
:-(

So, a quiet night in started great, and then was spent in emergency. This time around, we were less shocky.
