V:  Can I have a shower?
Me: No, Daddy's already run the bath.
V: PLease may I have a shower?" *hopeful smile* J can have a bath and I can have a shower!
Me: No, Daddy's already run the bath, and we don't want to waste any more water.
V: You're very cruel.
Me: You'll survive.

It begins!

Welcome to the World Baby Girl!

A huge congrats to Babalon and Perfect_Entropy and Baby_Babalon on the birth of newest addition to the family. Another long labour, but everything went brilliantly.

If you'd like to send congrats, please consider doing so either here, or through Mynxii's email address so they don't get too inundated during this special time.

I'm trying to sort out where we stayed and looking for details of my last trip to Melbourne.

My heart catches as I see the calendar entry.
And once again I just want to cry.
Sometimes, you never quite get over things, do you.

J is still incredibly sick. Going to see dr again today, but everything else has slowed right down around him, poor baby. Chesh and I were talking about it last night, and V and/or J have never been this sick before.
:-(

Praise deity for baby panadol.

So tired

J was running a fever yesterday and was miserable and cranky all day. The panadol worked for him, but at 7:00 we thought we'd try baby nurofen for him, and that did nothing. His temperature was still very very hot, so I bundled him up and took him to the late night doctors. Which was full. They said I could leave a name and phone number and they would ring if they had space, or else go to emergency. So, I went to emergency. He's better-ish now, but I was there until 2:15. I'm in bed by 10pm these days. God am I tired.

J had a temp of 40 degrees, and they kept us so long because his heartbeat was high . It looks like it's viral. So, nothing important, I guess. I feel guilty though, and I wish the late night dr's hadn't been full. I always feel like I'm wasting the time and efforts of staff who should be working on something else when I am sititng around in emergency, something more important. At the same time, it's good to have someone close by if everything really goes wrong.

We drove for four and a half hours and then I slept for an hour and a half. Then we went and saw some rellies, then Vinnie had a febrile convulsion and I spent all night in a hospital. John stayed with us as long as he could, and then we sent him home to get some sleep, because we still have to drive home the next day. The doctor came around at abou 11, I think, and then we went to find my rellies' house, and have some breakfast. The chalets we were in (Middltopn Beach Resort) were lovely, and I want to go back for a whole week. Albany looked good for the whole 25 minutes I got to be driven around in it, and the resort had a gorgeous spa, pool, and entertainment set up. A whole week.

So neither John nor I made it to the party that we trucked ourselves down for, and neither of us is particularly relaxed right now. Vinnie is fine, but the drs suggested we get him checked out for epilepsy as well, because there is a slight chance that he might develop it. I checked the intarweb and it says

Is a febrile convulsion a type of epilepsy?

No. The cause of a febrile convulsion is related to the feverish illness and is not due to any brain abnormality. Epilepsy causes convulsions (seizures or fits) without fever.

About 1 in 100 children who have two or more febrile convulsions develop epilepsy in later childhood. This is slightly higher than the chance of epilepsy developing in children who have not had a febrile convulsion. So, febrile convulsions and epilepsy are two separate conditions, but a very small number of children may be prone to develop both epilepsy and febrile convulsions.

Sprog appears to be getting a tooth. His sleeping patterns are out, he's crying a lot right at the moment, and there's white spot on his gums that we think might be a tooth. Goodness!

Poor kid's not happy though!

Last night was brilliant! Sonia has finally made an honest man out of Grant *grin* She looked lovely, he looked very cute, the entire male side of his family were in kilts! I got to feel Grant's sporran twice!! :-)

Had a great time with a few glasses of champagne and friends, it was fantastic to catch up with people who I don't get to see very often. So much to talk about! So little time! :-) But we are making some inroads to make catching up a little more commonplace. :-)

Lyn and I set out to have a few drinks together - this would be the first time conditions had been right for us both to get drunk together, because for the past TWO YEARS one of us had been pregnant or breastfeeding! However, we started out, and then our circle grew... and grew... and grew..... :-) Got to meet some new people too, which was a new experience. Hi to Jenny and Acolyte! Er... Andrew. :-)

Brilliant to see *everyone*, really. I still managed to not have a good chat with [livejournal.com profile] mortonhall or [livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow but I did get to have good chats with heaps of other people. I just worked out that I spent most of the night chatting to women, and that the one man I did have a good chat with was the groom!

Yay wedings! And now, onto The Pic du Jour )

Despite the illusion of calm happiness as evidenced by yesterday's pic du jour, there were some dramas yesterday.

It's a baby story. Click here if you feel like it. :-) )
