My poor, poor tummy
Last night was fantastic. Every one brought very yummy food, and every one loved my Biscotten Torte as well as the mini Bannoffee Tartlets. :-) Everything was so rich though! I had forgotten than Chesh and I don't eat much in the way of rich food anymore! We're more likely to eat a simple stirfry and rice, using skinless chicken breast or lean beef, with a LOT of vegetables, than anything else recently! And then last night, all the food was so yummy and RICH!
And I discovered something amazing - a friend of a friend breeds GEESE! I am in awe. And excited, since I may be able to buy a couple at culling, and perhaps if I *really* get enthused purchase a breeding pair! My goodness. I am amused, and enthused. There's no words for the "wishfulness but need to patience and reality" mood that comes with such news. Plus I want to grab this friend and sit down and ask her about *every aspect* of breeding geese. I'm fascinated! I can't do stuff all with veg, but I can keep cats and fish alive, so I expect I will be better with livestock than anything else!
So I have just spent the last three and a half hours reading about the care, feeding, and breeding of geese. Goose fat, confit, roasting, grilling, cooking in general, rendering, skin, pate foi gras (which is evil and cruel and should never have been invented/discovered/thought of), duck breeding care and cooking, chicken breeding and care (less of that though, since I spent a day or two on that last week) and fats. Soluble fats, mono-saturated fats, fat fat fat fat fat what's good for you what's not and what the fuck is going on? I'm amused that all my hits on fat webpages say the closer you can get to original unprocessed fats the better. And that goose fat is great for frying potatoes in. Oh, and did we mention confit??
Now I have the urge to go shopping and looking at vegetables. We're having a low energy day today; I think I may have over extended my energy levels yesterday, and Chesh has had a tiring week and needs some recovery time yet too. I'm not concinced that bannoffee tarts and coffee is a good breakfast, but I think we made up for that with Mynxii and Kaneda's mango and sundried tomato salad for lunch, which was chock full of yummy things like ..well.. mango and sundried tomatoes... and macadamia nuts... lettuce.... cheese... capsicum... stuff! Yum!

Greetings, Calli!
Ratfan here :-) I've decided to start trying to figure out this live journal thing since everyone seems to be doing it now.
That's Laurton's geese you're talking about there, yes? I've seen them and they are fat and delicious. Still walking around, as of last note. I think only one has a name but don't worry, it's not being treated as a pet. The name is Golden Crispy....
You certainly eat far more interesting food than I do, not that that's difficult!
See you some time

Re: Greetings, Calli!
*hugs*
How are you? I haven't heard anything for ages! And yes, they are Laurton's geeses. If I get a breeding pair I am thinking of calling them Hansel and Gretel. Kind of incestuous, now that I've written it out, but hey...
:-)
Food is fun. Golden Crispy sounds like a very suitable name for a goose too after what I have been reading about goose recipes....
:-)
Re: Greetings, Calli!
Is that reading a long way back? I don't know, I just skipped along a few pages to see what a LJ was about. I've only got you and Elaine as Friends, don't know how to find anyone else :-) Not to say you aren't excellent as a friend!
Anyway, I now have an actual entry in my LJ. It's not much - some of my paper diary info will never see the light of a computer screen :-)
I'm ok, I guess, needed some recovery time after Swancon. Not doing much - bit of writing, more gardening, that's about it. Did go to Elaine's small get-together for her friend from France (say that three times fast) which was excellent. She describes the menu better than I can. i think that's about it for my social life! Good to have a long weekend, spent today putting plants into the garden, that's about it!

btw, can you tell me, is it a good idea or not a good idea to stick my real name in any of these emails?
Re: Greetings, Calli!
I just think I write a lot, so I'm always impressed that people actually read what I say. Occasionally, I have been known (if the LJ is interesting enough) to read it all the way back to the very first post. I would not recommend that for my blog, as I talk too much, type too fast, and have blogged for over a year now. :-)
To check out friends, check out the user info for Chaosmanor and myself, and you'll spot a few people, like Grant Watson is Angriest, Cathy is cupittsbow, etc. Happy reading!
