And The Winner is .... Pak Choi!

Did I mention I planted some seeds last Sunday? I planted some peas and beans as I know peas have a fast germination rate, and I expected to be checking them every few hours, just cos that's what you do. I planted bush peas, climbing pea (one), climbing beans, black and red beans I had been saving from I don't remember when, pakchoi, summer beetroot, nasturtiums, and ancient gourds.

And the peas did indeed start germinating first from what I could see, but two of the pak choi seeds have put forth their little seedling leaves! Since the seeds for the pak choi looked like poppy seeds, I was really not expecting that! So, the winner is .... Pak Choi!

:-)

Also, I am looking for pumpkin seeds which are not queensland blue, butternut, ironbark or JAP. :-) In particular I'd lioke some australian butter (they look like ironbark but the skin is the colour of butter nut and the flesh is sweet and easy to cut) or anything weird. I love pumpkin. I do admit I find the baby ones puzzling though. If any one has turk's turbans, I'd love to scam some seeds. I really MUST join Diggers' club this year.

Okay. I know what I'm getting you for your chrissie present then.

Might I suggest Yilgarn seeds? Yilgarn seeds are grown and harvested in Geraldton, so they're a better match for Perth's climate than seeds from the Eastern States. They're non-hybrids, like Diggers' seeds, so you can collect and store seeds from what you grow.

I buy them through the Environment House on 8th ave in Maylands, but they're available by mail order too. yilgarn@midwest.com.au I can't find a website for them.

A website would have had me salivating.
:-(

If I am ever in the area then I shall have a look. But I also have to remember...
:-!

I will email them though and see if they have a catalogue or something

There is a catalogue, I've seen it at the Environment House. If they can't post you one, I'll pick up one next time I'm in there.
