Lamb and Australia Day

Am I missing something? Why is every one talking about having lamb on Australia day like it means something? Why am I being advertised at, that I have to have lamb on Australia day? I don't think I have heard of this one before! 

My plan was something with "ese," or "ish" on the end - Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Lebanese... I hadn't decided yet

Nothing says "True Blue Dinky Dye Aussie" like some guy killing himself. Don't we have a pretty high rate of suicide amongst first world countries?
