Am I missing something? Why is every one talking about having lamb on Australia day like it means something? Why am I being advertised at, that I have to have lamb on Australia day? I don't think I have heard of this one before!

My plan was something with "ese," or "ish" on the end - Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Lebanese... I hadn't decided yet
:-)

It's no more than a marketing campaign that's a few years old.

no, the ad campaign is based on the popularity of lamb in Australia. not very many nations eat sheep.

also I presume it's from the jumbuck (sheep) in waltzing matilda

Don't they? I thought the Turkish/Lebanese/Morrocoan dishes were mostly lamb based, India was preferred lamb, since they hold cows sacred, and most countries eat mutton rather than lamb.
Since we don't hold any animals sacred, we eat all of every one else's sacred animals.

I'm just going on personal experience that it's hard to get lamb in restaurants in the various countries I've visited (none of which are ones you listed :P)

America/asian countries and most of western Europe think "ew yuck how could you eat that" from what I've experienced, might not be true other than that though!

I'll be eating whatever I feel like that's in the fridge, personally. Australia Day is like any other holiday now - an excuse for marketers, anything from TV to meat.

hmm, it's probably only REAL aussie lamb if it's been stolen, like in that song. but i didn't say that.

Nothing says "True Blue Dinky Dye Aussie" like some guy killing himself. Don't we have a pretty high rate of suicide amongst first world countries?

I'll be drinking beer and rehearsing with the lads.
And no, it won't be Australia beer.

You should have Chinese, what with it being the first day of Chinese New Year! :o)

_Why_ did I not connect this last night when I read someone else's comment somewhere?!

That would have been a good plan:-)

Of course, we're going to my folks, and we're having corned beef apparently... so it's an even better choice—one I don't have to think about:-)

Heh, I have celebrated Chinese New Year before. I will never drink rice/sorghum spirits ever again. EVER.

But yeah, I'd be with you with bells on
:-)

What we need is to combine events. If Canadians can combine Robbie Burns Day (the 25th of Jan) with Chinese New Year (26th of January) and come up with Gung Haggis Fat Choy (http://www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com/) as celebrated by Toddish McWong, then we should be able to come up with something equally impressive.

Chinese New Year is dependant on the moon, I think.
:-)
What an interesting story!

Burns was set to emigrate to Jamaica at one stage, so there's also a jamaican feast of Jerk chicken, goat curry and reggae music, etc...

Ironically, I'm actually considering roasting a butterflied leg of lamb, but probably on Sunday, rather than Monday. Could be a late Monday lunch/early dinner.

Wont be drinking Aussie beer though LOL

I love the Lamb ads but unfortunately we can't have lamb in our house unless its just me eating it .

Ken is allergic to Lamb which causes him a headache .

Ahh geekboys and their number of heath problems.

See I never really go into Lamb because my Dad hates it and won't have it in the house.

Well then... you live in your own house now...
I bought lamb steaks the other day which I used in a stirfry, and that was pretty awesome.
Roast leg of lamb is pretty awesome. Lamb racks are good...
anyway, it's all good.
