Swancon XXX is finally over. Wow.
It went well. There were many people. I think we made budget. All problems encountered seemed to be personal to a large degree, rather than organisational or concom. :-) It was ... a con.
I realised yesterday or the day before that I have been to nine swancons. That was a bit of a shock. And I realised that my Ippongi Bang signed spoon was at least 8 swancons old. Scary. How did that happen??
The official theme was Consensuality. The unofficial theme seemed to be Family. Anna and Art brought their three in, Aerin was there, Connor was there, people were patting Sproglet and chatting to it/her/him all the time, plus Lee and Lyn's kids were there for a few hours for the wedding... plus of course Elaine had Alistair there and Sally and Dave had Evvan... Family.
Quote of the weekend: "OH MY GOD THAT'S MY MOTHER!" See? Family. :-)
Thursday night. The Hen's Night. It was not a girls only party, but it seemed the boys were too scared to come out and play. :-) My intention was that even if Lyn could not drink, she would be girly and giggly and get a huge buzz from the constant blushes. *grin* It worked. I had an after noon nap. I spent an hour sewing lifesavers onto a singlet. I wrapped the pass the parcel parcel with about a million layers of lollies. The one layer with a selection of condoms in it seemed to not be noticed by any one when it got opened! Romantic poetry was cool. Neil Gaiman and his cucumber was cool. Go and read
owlrigh for a better update. So much happened, it was an absolute scream. My HUGEST thanks to
splanky for bringing stuff and helping and having a laptop with music (although I liked the idea of karaoke pass the parcel). I got to bed at about 1:30. I have to admit, it was rather weird to be at a party where it was about 90% female. There was still some tongue on tongue action (with photos to prove it) but the late night chats were very different to what you get with mixed company at cons. I was exhausted. John and I rolled into bed, and we tried to sleep.
Friday Night. You will have noticed by now that I tend to divide my cons by nights. That's mostly because I can remember what happens in the evenings. Everything else tends to blur together. There was lunch, for example, but on which day did what happen? We had Taka's kitchen once. Was it then or was it Saturday lunch? It was with friends. I remember that. :-) I don't think I slept well. I'm not sure. :-) I had an afternoon nap. The Box party was that night. I remember that. Rohan and Neil were evil, and gave me a shot. I said "I can't drink that," and they grinned and said "It's Ok, it's not alcoholic," so I drank it and it was raw red cordial *ack* :-) But it was nice to be included regardless. We rocked up and got told that "This was the G Rated Section," and this was the front of the hotel room, and "There was the X rated section," so
strange_dave and I wandered down and had a look and there was only us! Huh! Some X rated section! So we sat on the bed and chatted about his recent news. I had a chance to talk to Jenny and Peter, who are people I have seen around (for years, it seems, probably close to NINE of them) but never really got to relax and chat around. I did a lot of relaxing and chatting this year, which was great. I dragged
chaosmanor along to the box party, because the other party was nice but a bit too formal for what I knew she was hoping for. *grin* Neil got seriously TRASHED. Alli was in town! Got to have a good chat with her. Rohan was relaxed and happy, and chatty. Bounced between
punkrocker1991's room and the box party for a bit. Helped make Mitch melt into a puddle. *grin* Girls..... who like to touch girls.... anyways.
punkrocker1991 talked to my tummy and patted it too. *grin* Lots of people did. :-) Eventually, we went to bed, again at about 1:30. As we left, Neil fell off the glass table he had been lying on, and lay there lauighing too hard and too drunk to get back up, with
mynxii standing over him saying "I told you I wasn't going to help you up again if you did that..."
I believe it was Friday after my nap when I was having a shower and trying to return to the land of the living (which can be quite a walk from where I end up after my afternoon nap sometimes) when John came back with a surprise for me. Lyn's brother was unable to make it to the wedding, and he was supposed to be giving her away. She asked John if I would like to do it for her! I started crying, I just felt so honoured! Now I have been a bride, a bridesmaid and would be giving away the bride! I was so ... full of emotion and ... I cried some more. Then I finished the shower and got dressed. :-) I still think they honour me too much. :-)
Saturday. Saturday night I *know* I didn't sleep well. I did have my afternoon sleep, had to skip the fannish taste test panel I was supposed to be on, since I was now part of the wedding party I figured I should be within sight of the bride so she wouldn't stress that my part of the wedding would be miissing/messed up/stuffed up/whatever. That morning, Lyn came to me to get my response to her question, so I nearly started crying all over her again. :-) And she let slip a secret - if I had said no, then there was someone else at con she would have asked. After my sleep, I was thinking "well, why shouldn't she have us both?" I had four people give me away, and 6 people respond "We do" when I was given away. (Ma, Pa, my parent's best friends Carmel and Michael, and John's parents too.) So when I was ready and dressed and under control, I asked Lyn if she would like this too, and she was happy to say yes. So I ran down to where my intended victim was in a panel, and he was utterly delighted and, I think, as overcome with emotions as I was. *grin* So, Dave Luckett and I walked Lyn Triffit down the road to being Lyn Battersby. Good thing I took tissues - the entire wedding party needed them. Bad thing about the number of tissues - I didn't have enough left for myself! Lyn looked amazing. Cassie looked amazing. Sharon looked lovely. Lee looked ... neat. And lovely. :-) Poppa Dedman looked rather nifty too actually. People were impressed - Lee and Stephen looked less like "The Accused" than we thought they might.... *giggle*
So, yes, wedding was beautiful and emotional and I cried. But then, I think so did every one else. :-) I think because I was in the room for so long after every one else left, I didn't see much food, so Sheldon and I shared a toasted turkish bread thing with a celebratory glass of champagne. The profiteroles were delicious, and the fresh spring rolls were yummy. :-) And every one kept eating the cheese platter so that there was only blue cheese left, which I am being good and not eating. :-) Consensual launch that night. Went well. I signed things. *weirded out* :-) John and I got two copies each as contibuting authors. So we have four copies. :-) I need to get to emma and gina about getting a copy of Gynazine off them as I'm in that too. But i think I slept through that launch. :-( Um... how did the night end.... um.... we went to the New Zealander's party and sat around and chatted, then we went to the ASIM party, and sat around and chatted. Both these parties were in the rooms next to ours!! Eventually Sally threw us out, so we ended up at our own room with a few people, I growled at
kremmen and then later growled at John too. We got to bed at 2:30ish, talked for 45 minutes, and then John went to sleep. At about 3:30ish, I was still not asleep, so I got up and had a shower. 3:45ish, knocked on the door and was lucky enough I heard her and let her in!! :-) Apparently, she had had a very very good night, as she giggled and stagged to the couch and giggling more said something along the lines of "Weeeee! Triple X night! I can see your bottom!" (I was wearing just a towel and a normal sized towel at that. *grin*
It still took me until 4:30ish to get to sleep. John snored like a banshee.
owlrigh snores like my Mummy cat, all tiny snores, very delicate and cute. I wish. :-)
I crawled from bed at about 10:50, realising that I am supposed to be downstairs for the market day with bras and knickers and things. I got down there at about 11:15, and set up next to Kundra, who was busy talking to people. Then I was busy talking to people. Then she was busy talking to people. Then I was busy talking to people. Then ... yes, you can see the trend. I made some sales! I am impressed! :-) Then we did the corset panel, which I was happy with. As always, I was scared I talk too much, but people didn't seem to get annoyed with me. I worked very hard to portray a fair view of the fact you can get corsets all over Australia, and not just with my friend the corset maker who is sitting right next to me here.... Apparently I was successful in that regard. :-) I still think if any one wants a corset they should see Kundra, but hey, that's a personal view and not a professional view, and I was trying to be professional. But it went well. Afterwards, I did consider re-opening the stall, but in the end I went to bed and tried for some more of that sleep thing.
Sunday Sheldon and Tas took me out for dinner, which was a glorious meat eating adventure. We went to Number 1 BBQ house in northbridge, and had duck, char siu and roast pork with noodles. Then, purely for piggy-ness sakes, we ordered another plate of char siu. It was ... divine. And they listened to me whinge, bitch and moan for the entire time. That was nice, cos that way there was no chance the people I was going off about could hear me. *grin* Went back, and there was the 31 launch, which ran fine, and we had the level 3 party where we put out the wine tasting bottles and hopefully every one enjoyed them. Problem is, most hotels don't really bother to aircondition the hall ways, as most times every one is in their rooms. It was hot. I hid in
splanky's room and chatted with Davina, Sarah and Elisabeth, and looked at the Hen's night photos. :-) They are awesome. A huge thanks to
mynxii for doing a fantastic job.
We ended up eventually at
prk and
amarillion's room for a quiet room party, which I think might have to be my favourite room party in the end. It was just nice to sit and chat and the conversation was wide and varied and there were three laptops and a big fat connection.... I swear every time I tried to use the internet it broke. Except once. In
splanky's room. Where she had lost her mobile. *grin* But that's a different story. :-) Anyway, it was a very nice chance to sit quietly and relax and chat. :-) Lyn was radiant. Lee was radiant. And talkative. :-)
Monday we checked out at 11. I think they might have been glad that lots of people asked for late check out. Trying to process the entire hotel checking out at 10 would have sucked. :-) Then we allsort of sat around and stared vaguely at things. I made it to the quidditch match, which was hell cool. I also made it to the dr Who panel, which was also cool. And then the closing ceremony. And it was all over. :-) And we went to the dead dog party too.
Ok, enough typing, I think it's time to hit "Update."
