Word Help

Word, my least favourite programme on the entire planet, has decided that some of my WIP document is actually in Japanese, and has converted a thousand or two words into characters.

Any ideas how to un-do this? I don't know why it's done this, I don't do unusual things in word, I just use the damn thing, and obviously it's too much for it's little programme to handle.

I've gone back, and the problem is there in the beta-readers copies (traditionally a back up system for me) and previous to that, that section wasn't actually written.

So. Suggestions? If I open the file in Wordpad, it tells me the characters are S Mincho.
