Well. I had my first bra party last night and I am HAPPY! Things went really really well, and it was great to catch up with people! I am also really pleased with the amount of time I took - we were supposed to start at 3, I know we started late, and I was wrapping things up at about 5:15! Mind you, I then spent an hour or two chasing the hostess around the house with a tape measure... :-) But I am half way to paying off all the new goodies that I have ordered, so I am REALLY REALLY happy! And it was also really really nice to do the paperwork and fiddling with the kit and the presentation and then getting up there and DOING it! Yay me! Mind you, it exhausted the fuck out of me. I was so tired that I bought dinner and was almost crying on the way home! But, you get that! I did miss the boy though. He's so CUTE at the moment!
;-)
So. What else have I been up to? I have firmly moved into my calendar and diary. I need a moon calendar for my toilet wall still, but will sort that out later. This week:
- Monday - Floors started, BBQ at Mum's for dinner. Must buy wine. Flyfest for lunch.
- Tuesday - Floors still going. Fence fixing begins. (Men everywhere, I swear!)
- Wednesday - Ju's for dindins.
- Thursday - Public holiday. Picnic in Armadale with fireworks. Yay!
- Friday - Dinner party with friends who are breeding chickcocks. Peachooks? Peachickens? heh heh heh. Also, during the day, bundle up the boy and check out the kelmscott writer's group. The thingy says "Come Write In" so I'm not expecting any secret best selling authors to be turning up. I just hope it's not one of those memoirs-writing groups that I accidentally picked up a flyer for. *shudder*
I am aiming for one intimo party a week, and things are looking brilliant on that score. I am so happy that I haven't forgotten *everything*. :-) So, I'm not as stir crazy as I was at the beginning of last week, but still living in a tin-can. I had all my paper spread over the bed yesterday as a desk, and this morning too. Vincent thought the papers looked.... yummy.... but I'm still trying to encourage him in the "rolling over to get things" action, and he is still laughing at me, so he jkust looked at the papers from across the bed and couldn't be bothered to try for them. :-)
Oh, and I watched Family Guy. Three episodes. I still don't get it. Mostly I put it on because it was a cartoon with singing and talking and figured it could distract Vincent for a bit, so I caught some of it by osmosis. (As you do in 2 square metres.) It just seemed to me to be a re-hash of all the unfunny bits of the simpsons, with a homicidal maggie er stewie. It really didn't stand out for me. And I didn't laugh once.
I finished reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, which I found completely delightful. I enjoyed the stories it told, I enjoyed the language and narrative ploys, and I just liked the world it drew. I have also read Kushiel's Dart. Y'know, it got better after the first 500 odd pages. She stopped using tiresomely obfuscating language and actually told the story. Characters still seemed pretty one dimensional to me, but the story got a bit more interesting. I also related better to the lead character after she dragged herself out of bed after drinking too much whiskey to discover she'd slept with the female high command. *grin* Unfortunately, that was around the 700 pages mark. *sigh* I find it interesting to compare the two, because I can easily see that Mynxii would hate Jonathan and Norrell, and find it stuffy and annoying. I also found that the style or narrative expression through out Jonathan and Norrell was maintained for the entire novel, which I can NOT say abotu Kushiel's Dart. I also got very tired of "every thing" having a name, Kushiel's Dart, Cassiel's choice, ra ra ra ra ra and for something supposedly so rare, why does every one recognize it? And who's business is it anyway?? Anyway... I digressed.
So. Now I am reading a book about raising happy children. I read Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. This means my novel count is ALREADY higher than last year. Which was completely dependant on Terry Pratchett releasing new novels, which I believe there were about two or three. I'd also like topoint out that Chalion and Paladin are both around the 600 page mark, Kushiel's Dart is about 900 pages, and Norrel and Strange is about 800 pages. I think. :-)
