12 yo girl gets liposuction, and they took 35 pounds of fat. That's right, about 15.9 kilos.
Are we proud yet?

Date: 2006-12-17 07:43 pm (UTC)From:I love my regular doctor. Once, when I was about 12, during a routine visit Mum asked about what weight loss treatments she recommnded. My doc replied, apart from a healthy everyday diet and regular exercise, she didn't recommend any weight loss treatments for children until they had finished puberty...

Date: 2006-12-19 01:07 pm (UTC)From:OK. I scoured the article, ol' Dad looks like he's still around. What story did they feed the surgeon? And, if the sick dad was the deciding factor, why is he justifying himself to the world with the "oh, but I did it for the dying father etc"
I really have to admire the doctor that waited until puberty was past - Yes, taunting is terrible, but learning good life habits, such as cause and effect are important too. There was mention of her monitoring her food; is this actually going to be something that she understands, or something that the parents said.
Lastly, though, I do want to say that if she is a happier, more balanced person, then that's great. I just worry that, like with the lifestyle programs, when you put people through a great period of change in such a short time, how much actually sinks in, and how much do you take in for life....the old "teach a man to fish" coming out, I guess.
