Buoyed on the success of the other night, and the fact I am allowed to eat sushi as long as it's very freshly prepared and all thoroughly cooked, I tried my hand at making a single portion of sushi.

I used 1/2 cup of sushi rice, and 3/4 of a cup of water. I washed the rice three times, until I could see the rice at the bottom, dumped the water and then poured in the 3/4. I put a lid on my liddle microwave bowl, and nuked it for 7 minutes in our dodgy old "we think itmight be 700 Watts but not really sure" microwave on Chernobyl. (It only has two settings - Three Mile and Chernobyl.) I then left it there without touching for about ten or so minutes while I finished my shower and started looking for clothing.

Notes: It boiled over. I was surprised, I thought there was enough room in the bowl. Ah well. The rice was about 95 percent done. It was still a touch firm. It was not crunchy, just a bit firmer than what I was hoping. It was not bad enough to a) start again or b) re-nuke, so it was OK.

For the seasoning: 1 tablespoon of ricewine vinegar(15mL). 1/2 tablespoon sugar. (or 7.5 mL.) 1/8th of a teaspoon salt. Mix until dissolved. (Yeah, right. I almost managed that.) I used a big plastic flat-ish spoon to mix in the seasoning into the rice, and had put a fan onto the kitchen counter to blow cool air across it as I did so. Cool. Seems to work fine.
:-)

Stuffing! Here I ran into problems. There was an ancient avocado that needed laying to rest, so I did. Straight into the bin. That left tinned carrots, corn, nectarines, peaches, watermelon.... *sigh* OK. This needed a bit more thought. I could have made the omelette which I do happen to LOVE! but then I thought about the mess and decided to mix some tinned tuna with some mayo and use that as a stuffing.

All is good. All is happy. Then I stuffed up the rolling and assembly. First time in a bloody long time. (Mind you, the number of times I have made sushi in the past five years would fit onto one hand, so not really a good comparison note.) Ah well. Managed to roll it tightly enough that it did NOT fall apart when dipped in soy sauce. All the elements are there, the presentation sucked. :-) Tasted good. Tuna is not my favourite type of stuffing though. If the avocado had been happier, then my rating of the sushi might have been higher. Such is life.
:-)

Next week, I practice again.

Yesterday I indulged in one of my "Give it up for pregnancy" faves, a fried egg with a runny yolk. It was devine!!!!!!

Well done on your sushi. I adore sushi but have never dared make it.
