Wednesday went really well. Went to the accountant, we had lunch together, and we got to the chiro. I nipped into Silk Elegance and bought a new maternity bra. :-) Then, I drove us all home. Vincent was good and we fed him at the chiro's, using expressed breast milk in a bottle. Then, I drove us all home.

The thing about mastitis is that they say "some flu-like symptoms may occur." Ok, fine. But seriously?? I was tender all day in that breast, and obviously skipping that feed seemed to be the key thing which brought me down. I have been tender for a few days, but some judiciously placed feeding had made everything feel normal again for a whole day or two. So, anyway, we got home. On the way, I was saying to Chesh how much my breast hurt, and that when I got home I was going to jump in the shower, have a hot shower , and then get some expressing happening cos things were *really really* tender. I jump out of the car and pretty much move as fast as I could (getting out of the car was excruciating) to the shower, where I spend ten minutes in the heat trying to massage my breast to ease things up a little bit. However, when I stopped the shower, I was cold. Really cold. I hurt. My shoulders hurt. Muscles hurt. I got to bed, and Chesh was sterilising the expressing thingy for me as I was in the shower, and I couldn't make it to the kitchen to see how it was going, so I ended up sitting on the bed and screaming for John to come down and help me. However, I had shut the bedroom door, and the kitchen door was shut too, so he didn't hear me for a few minutes, and then he had me going to peices (by now shaking too hard to do anything as well as being so feverish it wasn't funny) and Vincent crying because he felt like it. By now my back muscles were in agony, and my legs, and pains in joints too, such as my knees. I mean, seriously here - it's an infection inside the BREAST. Some flu-like symptoms? Yeah, one of the worst flus I've ever had! I've also not mentioned the splitting headache which still doesn't go away with two neurofenalikes and two paracetamol. But at least they reduced the fever and pain enough that I passed out for an hour. It wasn't real sleep, but it was enough. However, Vincent got hungry before I got the hour of passed-out-ed-ness, and that was exciting let me tell you. However, babies are the most efficient way of getting milk out of the breast, so despite the pain he was going to feed on that side!

I feel very very unwell. My friends Neurofenalike and Paracetamol are always close by, and if I forget to eat (or just don't like the thought) then it makes the unwellness and headaches and pains worse. This sucks. I got an hour or so's sleep this afternoon, and also dozed for a few minutes on the couch, but I am seriously flattened by this. And it's going to take the antibiotics 24 hours to kick in.

*sigh*

I swear, I have never cried so much in my life as I have in the past four weeks. And I'd put mastitis in the "want to avoid more than childbirth" category. It was that painful. So, don't expect much from me until the antibiotics get me back on my feet. And we have a bloody busy weekend planned - a movie, a wedding, a birthday... *sigh* We'll see what we can make it to, I guess. I expect to feel better by then!

A friend's physio told her to use an electric toothbrush on the blocked part to clear the blockage. Jen said it was very useful.

A vibrator works too.

I found it really helpful to lie the baby on the bed and kneel on all fours over him to feed. That really does a thorough job of draining a breast.

That could be a way to go.
