Wow, it's like a post-apocalypse around here. I've never seen so few people at the supermarket, such stunned faces, the traffic lights are out, and so are the train crossings, and the only shops with power are Dewsons and Coles, who apparently have generators and are busy throwing out all dairy products and frozen goods that they can lay their hands on. People are standing around, unsure of what to do with themselves. With no customers, and no lights, for some of them there really IS nothing to do! Other places just haven't bothered to open. Some are just dark holes where a staff member peers uncertainly from behind counters, wondering if their bosses would mind if they shut up shop too and went home and back to bed.

I didn't realise it was so bad! We woke at 6:15 to the storm and just lay there and listened. The thunder was constant, and lightning just didn't seem to know you CAN take your finger OFF the strobe light. Another time I wished we had a hilltop house so we could just watch Nature reminding us just how frail we really are. This morning's quick drive is a testament to the delicacy of trees; our suburb won't need pruning for 18 months or so I think. We do, however, need someone to cart away the branches, twigs, and trees that didn't quite make the grade. Our boxes of books for bring out your dead day have exploded. Romance novels, Collins somethings, hardcovers, all strewn in a messy pile which had been neat only hours before.
