Home Weirdness
May. 23rd, 2008 08:34 pmI was at my parent's place tonight for Mum's birthday. I was hoping to go out tonight to a group of people I'd like to chat and get to know better, and some of whom I know pretty well. Instead, Mum decided she *did* want to do something. I didn't mention I had anything else planned, as your mum's 55th birthday does kind of trump everything else. My brother was there too, which was nice. There were a few points where the conversation went AWOL, and instead of being adult and supportive and saying something to clear the air (like, explaining what the other person had said) the family member just sort of sniggered and were kind of making rude comments about it.
And I just found it really annoying that I had given up a potential great night of supportive and respectful conversation to hang out with my family when they (well, one of them) felt that being mean to someone who had missed some of the conversation was an appropriate response.
It's not like this every time, and really, it only happened twice and we'd all been together for about three or four hours, so on the scale of family dramas most people would consider it to be a 0. But... well,.... you know.
*sigh*
