Sneak Preview That's 3 x 500g dark chocolate plus another four packets of 375g dark chocolate, 1.8 litres of cream, 3 dozen eggs, frangelico and cointreau, and icing sugar flowers. |
Chocolate decorations I couldn't find any chocolate decoration templates on the internet, so had to try and remember the cooking show I had seen them done in. Hence the various attempts. :-) |

Page 2 of Chocolate Decorations And some nice little heart motifs. |
Page 3 of Chocolate Decorations I was so over chocolate by the end, I'll tell ya. My house was bloody covered in it. That's one of the cake boards we made up for the cakes under that page of decorations. |
Cake the First You are looking at a dozen eggs, 800gs of dark chocolate, 2 cups of cream, 200gs of dark sugar, and some alcohol. It's not a pretty cake, and was too rich to ice or anything, so we had been checking out the internet for pics on what we wanted to do to make it look good. |
Cake The Second Cake number 2. Another dozen eggs, 800gs dark chocolate, etc etc etc etc. I'd like to point out that I still have 1.4 kilos of chocolate, 600 mLs of cream and a dozen eggs or so. Just in case something went horribly wrong, and we needed to make more cake. |
Cake the First, completed Icing sugar was the way to go!! Picked the prettiest of the name attempts, stuck some icing sugar flowers on there, and glued down (with chocolate) the decorations on the side. |
Cake the First, closer up Just, like, cos. I'd like to point out that the dates on my camera are out, and the cake was not made an entire week or whatever before the engagement. :-) |
Yup. Cake Same cake again. :-) |
Cake the 2nd This cake I made mistakes with. Number one - I did not take it out of the mould or the greaseproof paper the night before, when I should have. This cake was denser and moister; it seemed to hold a lot more moisture. So when we sprinkled icing sugar on it, it just got wet. :-( John decided we'd try the ganache, and above is the cake, covered with ganache. |
Finished Cake the 2nd! We pressed the decorations into the cake/ganache, and added a few decorations to the cakeboard. John added the flowers, and wallah! Looks pretty damned fantastic! |
