Why, you might ask? Well, John's answer is that I am trying to kill him. Maybe with cholesterol (we just did the main course) but it's because I wuv him so. Today marks ten years since I snogged him (or was it Karl?) on the kitchen floor at Fairbridge, and seven years of marriage blish. (Ok, so it was John AND Karl.)

Yay food!

Congratulations!

Didn't you snog everyone at that Faribridge? *grin*
That means we've known each other for about 10 years. *woosh* (The sound of time flying by)

Ten years? Try again... I am sure it's closer to 12 or 13. I started in 92, and finished in 96.

Nope, I didn't visit Karl until after my car accident in July of 1995 I only started uni in 1996

I am sure I knew you before you started uni.

Besides that though, I remember meeting you on the train. You were scary *grin* And that was before I was even trying to pick Karl up!! And that was way before you started uni.

Thingy introduced us to talk to, I remember meeting you in the pub before that, it would be in 1995 as that's the year Karl started uni, and as I said I only visited Karl after July in 1995. So about 10 years *hugs* Yay!

I was scared of pubs for a long time cos I was underage! *giggle*

So, we gonna get trashed in Melbourne and flirt outrageously with handsome young men?

I'll pay 10 and a half, at most, which is about 10 years *weg*

I bought a 15mL measurey thingy that goes on the top of the bottle today for our gin... cos the drunker we get the bigger "one finger" gets...

and, chartreuse or absinthe for Continuum?

Date: 2006-07-17 12:49 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] liluri.livejournal.com
Gin! Seems to be the best for me. It's been a while since I had chartreuse though... ;)

Whoa, that sounds like a fantastic meal. Congratulations on that and the anniversary!

We had a similar anniversary in June (ten years from first snog - never got around to getting married, though) - and entirely failed to do anything special. Well, we had a pyjama party with pizza and friends because it was the last night of Conflux. :) But there were no asparagus spears.

We actually had oysters the next day, but mainly because that was when we headed home - the best oysters in Tassie can be bought from a little shop near the airport (you're buying direct from the suppliers, Barilla Bay, who supply all the best restaurants in town) - they're 7.50 per dozen, so it's hard *not* to go nuts when we're coming home from the airport.

We're really tempted one of these days to buy some *before* getting on a Virgin flight!

Anyway, we got two dozen, drove home, ate them with lots of bread and butter and trashy cocktail sauce, and collapsed for the day. :) Actually, that's a pretty spectacular anniversary lunch, and kind of sums up our relationship... gluttony and sloth rank highly with us both. :)

My god, never got around to getting married? I got tired of waiting and was going to ask John on our one year anniversary, having already noted that two years from that happened to be a saturday ...

..

.

And then he got drunk about two or three days before hand and invited me to ask him!! It went something like this:

"You know, if you asked me to marry you, I'd say YES!"
(I've just gotten home from work.)
"Huh? Maybe I'm waiting for you to ask me!" (yeah, two or three more days of waiting...)
"But I already know what you'd say!!!!"

Ahuh!!??

"John.... will you marry me?"
"YES!"

That's such a cool story!

I was eighteen when we got together, so the whole wedding thing wasn't even on the horizon. And... it kind of never got there.

I was raised by a single-mum feminist, so the husband/wife thing squicked me out for a while. I'm over that now, but I was never in love with the idea. I'm totally into the concept of marriage - and we quite happily consider ourselves to be married in, you know, the Ancient Roman sense - but I've never been enamoured with the whole concept of "wedding." Basically, I hate fuss. I've avoided my two graduation ceremonies for similar reasons... :)

Book launches, now those I have no problems with!

Every now and then we flirt with the idea - for a while we were going to do it for our tenth anniversary, but then it got too close and we couldn't be bothered. And once Raeli was born we figured we wanted her to be old enough to remember it... so if we have more kids, the date will keep being pushed back!

Maybe when we're in the retirement home. Or some other situation that requires people to be cheered up.

PS: Glad to see you back around the blogosphere - missed your cakes and baby photos! How is Vincent doing?

Vinnie is as delightful as always, and I shall upload some more pics du jour. Sorry about the quietness; I had nothing to say!!

And I didn't feel like sharing online about what i did have to say! It turns out somethings can only be said with the life of your breath after all.

"But I already know what you'd say!!!!"

Heheh.. Oh I can so see that.

Sounds like a grand meal. Have a happy day.

It's so John, isn't it?
:-)

I read somewhere that statistically speaking, marriages in which the woman asked her husband to marry her are happier than where the men ask the women.

So did he ask me to ask him or did I just ask him because it was the conversation at the time??

Really? How cool!

I pulled a Sadie Hawkins too. We've been married ten years this month.

Huge congratulations - it sounds like a gorgeous meal, and speaks all of the love you both share.
