callistra: Fuschia from Sinfest crying her heart out next to Hell's flames (Default)
But first! My friday day! Things that went wrong.....

- Mother came for coffee and to look after vinnie while I drove Chesh to work. This was nice, but did make john late in the end. Oops. My bad, since I suggested/let her come over!
- Spending all morning talking to friends and watching Happy Feet instead of cleaning the house or buying vegies for the weekend!
- Failing to buy petrol at any point despite numerous suggestions from Cheshirenoir that maybe I should...
- The car running out of petrol on the way home from grabbing John for lunch...
- Ringing the RAC and getting petrol, and then the power failing in the 3 minutes John was at home
- All the places that looked good in the book were closed or unreachable, and the last suggestion was not answering their phone
- The Caravan park we tried out is run by scary rude people, which is fine because they were booked out.

[livejournal.com profile] babalon_93's House!! Yay!

Because of eveything, we got to Freo at about 7ish, and then set up the tent. Babalon and partner also set up their tent, which went up much faster than ours. :-) It took up about an hour to set up, which we don't mind too much, especially since this was our second attempt at setting it up and we're still learning. I expect it'll probably take about an hour to set up no matter what, really. :-)

So, things we learnt already: perhaps leave in the afternoon (is, Chesh works a half day) or else leave in the morning. And, avoid public holidays like the proverbial plague. If we'd wanted to get home from the orange grove caravan park, it would have taken the same amount of time as getting to freo, simply because of the number of people heading out.

So, tent is set up, and Babalon_93 and Perfect_entropy invite us to come along with them for dinner! I thought we deserved a treat for our hard work, and Chesh agreed, so we bundled up our bundle of joys and headed out. It was about 8:30ish by the time we got to the Balinese resturaunt, and OMG the food was FUCKING AWESOME! There was a crispy fish salad which was full of lettuce and bean sprouts with fried fish and a sweet chili style sauce which was awesomely divine, a fish with fantastic lemongrass flavours through the flesh and an awesome balinese chili sauce, a really lovely rendang and gorgeous squid rings with a yummy dipping sauce. And then we had dessert too! The black glutinous rice pudding was HUGE! We had fried banana fritters with icrcream, and they were done in the style of spring rolls! YUM! So, it's about ten o clock when we head home, and we settle in for the night.

I was a little worried about V, but he is much tougher than that thanks mum! So we put him into a wondersuit, though we had a sleeping bag ready in case he got cold, because we didn't know how hot or cold the tent would get. Perhaps if I had shut his window earlier then it might not have got quite so cold, but ... well... you learn things.... and it wasn't much hassle to change him, and then we snuggled with him for a bit so he warmed up and didn't freak out much when we put him back down in his room, and we all went back to sleep!

Things learnt: Shut the goddamned windows, woman! Are you listening?? :-) Oh, and the location of an awesome Balinese resturaunt.

The next morning we all slept in! To about 8:3o ish, which was fantastic! Chesh got up and let V loose, so he rumbled around the floor of the rooms have a fantastic time. He discovered that he can get close enough to try and shove his fingers up Mum's nose! What a great game! He later discovered he can do boglaps around his cot and the rest of the tent. It's great to have so much space inside the tent so that we didn't feel cramped or that we *had* to take vinnie outside for some air. So, time for breakfast!

Chesh discovers that Babalon_93 and Perfect_Entropy's BBQ has had a problem, and a rubber ring in it is not working, so it's leaking gas. This is Not Good(tm) so we decide to go and get a new one ... later. We all troop inside and have the pancakes in a bottle with maple syrup and lemon and sugar, with cuppaccinos! Awesome! Gotta love this camping thing! Hee hee heee! After we eat and drink ourselves silly, we head back to the tent to relax and do some cruising. V mangled my Earth Garden magazine, I snoozed or dozed or just lay in a pile on the bed revelling in the lack of anything I needed to be doing and Chesh read. Eventually hunger drove me forth, to find every one else was just as hungry, so eventually I had a plan. How about we go to a BBQ resturaunt just down the road and have PORK for lunch, with some more PORK, and maybe some DUCK and a little vegies and rice on the side?? This plan is met with approval, so we head out to lunch (which was so exactly what we wanted and so gooooooood. Not exactly the same calibre as the Bali place, but this was just what we wanted, expected, and got, and it filled all the special places in our souls that need PORK FAT in them.) Then we went to a camping store, where we got the new rubber ringy thingy and looked at camping porn, and saw the nicest little bbq thing... it's two burners, but folds in on itself, so it's small enough it could go under the drivers seat in the 121... but anyway. Then we went home to try and give V a nap. This did not work too well. He slept for about 5 minutes on the way home from the shop, but did not sleep at all during the day. It was quite hot in the tent now, too.

So, things we have learnt: If we want him to have an afternoon nap, perhaps a drive somewhere might be in order. And, um, PORK GOOD! Oh, and emergency bbq thingy good idea too. Will see if any one has one on freecycle that needs new home. So, incase someone has one rusting somewhere: Chesh and I are looking for a small round camping BBQ, the ones that are perfectly circular on top and have three legs and fold down very small.

We had a lazy after noon, eventually Chesh and Babalon went for a walk for more booze, we had some showers which improved our moods an awful lot, Splanky came to visit, and show off baby Splanky, which was nice too. We cooked up our bbq dinner, chatted and drank a little, V passed out at about 6:30, and sleep deeply and well for the most part. I snuck in the kitchen and washed some baby bottles. Eventually, I think Chesh and I passed out at about 9:00ish, and slept until 7:30ish, when we started to clean up and Chesh did most of the work in putting the tent away.

Things we learnt - don't forget the baby wipes. Some children (well, ours in particular) has one big poo a day. No wipes or tissues means this could be very awkward.
- The LED torch we have is great for night time in the tent, but will suck for reading after dark, mahjjong, or cards.
- Backup cooking plans are a must for when i get enthused about strange and new options on cooking while camping. I knew that though!
- V can reach pretty much everything on the card table.
- Alcohol helps the tents go up faster.
- Tenting with families, it is wise to have one person or two people look after babies while every one else sets up the tents, probably in order.
- We do indeed need a tub. I am thinking the baby bath we have/had might just be rather handy, plus it has a stand. This means less bending to do stuff, which would be nice.
- a 2 litre bottle of ice does appear to last 2 dayish

Cheshire has a whole list of stuff we've been updating and talkign about as we go along, whereas I am just working on memory here, so I am sure there is stuff missing. It was a fantastic weekend, heaps and heaps of fun, and V had a great time too, and it was really nice to play with him in the tent. He and Baby_Babalon had great times together too, much giggling and getting into trouble with each other. It's been an awesome weekend!

Sounds like FUN! Now, where is the location of that awesome Balinese resturaunt?

It's in Myaree off Leach Hwy ... I don't really know, actually! It looked like we were turning into a petrol station, and then 100 metres in we were in this strange mini chinatown.

Maybe Babalon and Perfect_Entropy should have a going away dinner banquet there or something so we can all go again!

Sounds like you had an awesome time...and the alcohol always helps to make things work - I have fond memories of watching people put play sets up and it's only when they involved red wine (at 8 am on Christmas morning, btw) that it seemed to come together!

Glad to hear that you had fun!
