callistra: A man-shaped figure with deer antlers symbolizing Herne The Hunter on the hunt (Dark is Rising)
I just read Mondy's review of the Dark is Rising movie.

but even I know that cutting Herne the Hunter makes no sense at all

I am speechless. Truly, run out of words. They fucking what?? I was too scared to see it in case they fucked Herne over. But this is a new interpretation I hadn't even considered!

Oh, I didn't realise this was a surprise. I've known Herne was out of the picture for about a year. Walden Media (those who produced the pic) are fairly strong Christians (hence their Narnia flicks) and it got confirmed an age ago that Herne wasn't getting a look in as a result.

I thought that was why you were so upset about the film before.

LOL

Nope.
:-)
And Chesh managed not to tell me either after he read Mondy's review. He just suggested I should go and read it and then went to bed! Maybe he knew I'd be ... kind of ... surprised...

Yeah, let's take a celtic/british/bits of arthurian based series with magic & powers etc. and leave out the core themes. And change most of the main characters. And content. I'm certainly not going to see it.

I know! I can't think of a major theme they didn't ruin!

Welcome to Hollywood. After Highlander 2, Alien 3, and Starship Troopers, can any of this be a surprise?

... you hadn't heard? Oh, you poor thing! This is what happens when you sell the property to a company who then sells it to a *cough* 'family values' company who then hires an evangelical christian with issues as a director.

I'm debating if I should go and see this, just so I can swear loudly, throw things at the screen and inform everyone else in the cinema of the murder being perpetrated onscreen. It makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

Seriously, life is too short. Wait till it comes out as a weekyl release on DVD and then invite some friends over and have a BBQ and once you're totally pissed laugh at the total shiteness of the film.

I think it's the only way...

I should say that at the cinema I saw it (Chadstone in melbourne) there was only 10 other people in the cinema. Which is crazy considering the movie only opened on Thursday.

Hopefully, more people will keep away. Not that it will teach Walden a lesson or anything. But it'll make me feel better.

Completely ignoring the changes in content, Fox and Walden Media completely cocked up the distribution and promotion of this film. The date kept shifting a week forwards, then a week back, then a fortnight forwards, etc. Then they kept changing the title, so people who saw ads for The Dark is Rising and thought they might go later saw ads for The Seeker and didn't realise it was the same movie.
