I awoke! Awake ye sons of sausages! And it was lovely.
I lolled about in bed for a bit, and then lolled about some more. Carol was still asleep. Eventually I got up and had a shower and after a few more hours Carol got up too and then dried her hair, and we set forth for breakfast.
I was all excited to see signs about the bookstuffing, and I convinced Carol that we needed to volunteer after we had eaten. For breakfast OI had the Baja omelette which was a three egg omelette with capsicums, tomato, and three cheeses in the middle and served with avocado, salsa, tomato sauce, and hash browns. The has browns were actual fresh potato cooked on a very high heat and were awesome, and the omelette was pretty awesome too, especially good with the salsa and sour cream on top. Oh, and they gave us bread too!
So we went and volunteered for a bit. 've just spent some timeposrt-registration talking to people, so I can now tell you that there were 1,100 bags stuffed today, and 13 books per bag. My bag had 17 books and magazines in it. I am staring at them in dismay because I just bought yet more clothes, and I am sure I won't have the allowance to carry them home! However, that can be a problem for later!
We ran into the Blackfords while we were working. Yay! We had hugs and hellos, and that was awesome to see other Aussies. Plus I also spotted Nancy wandering into the courtyard, so I showed her how to get to our room.
Carol didn't like book stuffing, so eventually we headed out to go shopping and go to the Cheesecake Factory again. I went toJC Penny's today and bought a couple of shirts for $2.97 and some dresses for $8.87 and prices like that. I also bought a few gifts for people, yay! I also found some shoes! They are very supportive and ugly. But I don't mind them. :) I was also running out of options. At Cheesecake Factory I had the lettuce wraps taco style that Carol had yesterday, and we tried the corn dogs. Blah. Glad that's over with and I don't have to do that again LOL
So then we come back, Carol starts sorting herself out to leave and I jump in the spa. Nice and hot! No naked men this time... well, I'd like to think they were naked!! Then i came back, showered and put on some make up and went with Nancy to her book signing. Lots of people there, it was very full on, and I met some lovely people. Katherine, Jackie, another Nancy and Erin. Jackie is newly hired to the Clarion crew, so we had a good chat about that and she hasinvited me to the Clarion get together. I was wondering if I should try and get in to that since at that point the only people I knew were likely to be there... however I have been meeting people!
After the signing we went to Souplantation, which was an experience, You open the doors and there's a huge signhanging overhead that tells you to grab a plate and go along the bar grabbing all the salad you like, and then you pay at the end of the salad bar. Then once you have paid your $10.95 plus money for drinks (80c for water) you are allowed at the soups (eight of them, clam chowder, chicken noodle, minestrone, beef chili, roasted potato, and I can't remember after that) as well as three types of bread, waffles, cornbread, pizza, frozen yoghurt, tapioca, chocolate mousse, jelly, baked potato and baked sweet potato... and there's also lots and lots of toppings for everything.
It was like Sizzlers except fresher, cheaper, and more variety.
Then we came back and registered with the convention. The bags each contained 13 books, though ... yeah, I am sure you read what I wrote above! I also managed to get a copy of Glitter Rose in my bag, but one of the people I was talking to designs her own covers and stuff and I was saying how much effort Alisa has put into making the book beautiful so I gave it to her so she could see it later. I met Dan, Grace and Marian while we went through our conbags, and later Lori came over and we sat around talking about conventions. She is co-chairing Texas Worldcon.
And now I am sitting on the balcony so I can have a decent connection, frreezing my toes off to bring you all this awesome update of moar food, moar stuffs, and MOAR BOOKS! I am tired now, bed time soon I think!
