Wordcounts

I thought there would be a lot more "no" answers in my poll about the wordcounts, but it seems people either would like to see them or are indifferent, so I'll just put them up and you guys can skim. I'm pleased to see every one except fred_mouse is enjoying the food posts. I was a bit unsure if any one was noticing them!

On Writing

stephen_dedman occasionally posts links about writing, and I will admit I read them. Every single one of them. And one of the ones I like recently talks about editing, making the most of your editors, and generally not acting like an emo wreck every time someone says something about your writing that you don't like. Now, when I give out copies of my books, I'm pretty upfront about what I want from the reader. Right now, it's mostly "Not For Editing." This means I'm hoping you read it, have some fun, hopefully enjoy it, and don't worry too much about the bits that are wrong or broken. If you don't like it, then just tell me how amazing it is that it's an entire novel! Written by a friend! OMG! This is my way of letting you know "hey, it's not open for being fixed yet, I just need some encouragement thanks."
When I do release it for the next level of edit, I usually hand out copies where the cover page has EDITING COPY written on it in large letters. And hopefully I will be specific and say things like: This edit I am focusing on plot and structure. Tell me if something suspends your disbelief. Or...
This is all documented far far better than my ramblings over here. So I'll stop waffling. My head's a bit fuzzy as I've just managed 3K for the day. I'm aiming for 4K, but who knows.
But even as I'm completing this novel I can see flaws and problems with it. i want to get this one over with, so I can start to learn how to fix those flaws and issues, or else start a new project with different flaws and issues. I want to workshop plots before I write them, I want to learn how to turn my phrases better, and I want to learn to do better characterization and dialogue.
But first, I want to have something to work on.
I guess I just wanted to say that I enjoy the process of what I am doing right now. Going through my old uni papers and highschool papers showed me that I used to write a LOT. And I seemed to like it then too. I'm going to post some of my uni and high school stuff to my writing filter, so that those of you who joined up don't feel like nothing ever happened after you filled out the poll. (Some stuff did, just not much!)
I just enjoy it. I don't know what I want from it yet, but being me, I just want to be brilliant at it. :-)

List du Jour
Apr. 10th, 2008 08:35 am- Check over Bills and Paperwork
- Look at Bra order (Not progressed at all. Should pout but don't have time! LOL)
- Sort out posty stuff for Babalon (well, it's in a box. Now I need to look at the material and see if there are any big bits. Or cool bits I want to make into drawstring bags. Yes, i am determined to continue with the sewing.)
- Finish Babalon-Con for Babalon before posty stuff is sent. (This should be upgraded to find.)
- Read Eternity of Blood! (Going well! The hair down to his middle ear comment is still my favourite, but I have hit a chapter that obviously no one read before. Lots of typos, spelling mistakes, formatting errors and lost spaces.)
