Realisation

I have come to a realisation. I can not put it off any longer.

I have to get rid of pet number 6, the spider in the sink. Bloody thing, despite being big enough to eat eagles, does not appear to be able to get out on his own, and neither is he dead, so i can't feed him to a ducky thing.

When Hansel and Gretel begin breeding, I have much Acquired Knowledge for dealing with the offspring. Including: buoy_wonder is much better at catching the little bastards than you and I.

Any special secret martial arts techniques I should know about? I was thinking of coming over to watch/help for the next day you cull two, and I'm particularly interested in the plucking experience.

Catching geese at the moment however would be difficult as my sense of balance is progressively getting worse. I can, however help herd!!

Sure, we're going to be culling like crazy for a while, until we're on top of the population explosion. We have established, just from our first day's experiences, that you just cut the wings off. There's not enough meat on them to warrant the effort involved in getting those big feathers off. The rest of the bird was quite easy to pluck, though it was time consuming. And we actually bought a big axe thing to kill them with, and wound up not using it. We went for the 'pole across the neck and yank' method.

and these little darlings are *fat* , We've been over feeding them, obviously, for them to be this podgy.

A friend of mine just skins things, as it's easier than plucking. However, I think sometimes you need the skin on for a good roast.

My other son, Alex, is supposed to be coming over next saturday to help out, and he used to work in a poultry processing plant, so we figure he'll know exactly how to do things. Think we might try skinning too, and compare the results. There so much fat on this birds that it might be easy enough to harvest from the skin.

Are we squicking other people yet?

I have an appointment at 11ish, so before/after? It's more a coffee with Margaret, but I totally forgot I had made the arrangments for coffee the Saturday just past and feel too guilty to even consider missing her again.

It would be in the afternoon. I haven't even checked with L yet that she's going to be home, but this is the only time Alex is available, so I'm sure she'll change her plans.
