Weird Fruit for the last week began with Dragon Fruit. . We'd tried them before, and managed to cadge a white fleshed one, and was quite unknowing about the fact that you can also get red fleshed ones. The red juice is darker than blood, darker than beetroot, and i was so surprised I managed to get it all over the desk at work! Thankfully, not all over the Calli at work!

Weird Fruit number two is the sugar cane we bought. I like to buy weird things to find out what they're like! Anyway, the only guidelines on how to eat sugar cane comes from Fat Choi Spirit (that Mahjongg western we rave about)which involves a character chewing bits off and spitting them all over the street. Hurm. Mynxii sms's her boi, and he gives general instructions, which were quite useful. We sat down during iron Chef and had a munch. Unfortunately, I think the sugar cane was old, and had been cut a few days ago, so while I liked the texture, the flavour was nothing to rant about. But we will try it again one day when we know it's fresher.

Weird Fruit three (are we sensing a theme here?) is a Prickly pear fruit. Now, I've never tried one before, so it's currently hiding in the vegie crisper, spines and all. John warned me of the spines, and so did the sales girl, and I'd just like to point out that I'm not the one responsible for the prickly pear fruit.

I am, however, responsible for the caramel sauce. *grin*

Highlight of cooking today: pumpkin, red capsicum, garlic, a quartered onion, a touch of basil, some balsamic vinegar, sea salt and olive oil oven baked. Yum! Smells good so far! I'm not a good cook, but I am an enthusiastic cook. I need to practise much more before I say I am any good. And I'm certainly hoping I will get time to practice when I stop working! My plan is to go to Swansea at least every two to three days.

I'm also making walnut coffee morrocan thing bread mix, but due to the moisture in the air it's a tad sticky. I kneaded in some breadmaker's flour, but we'll just have to see how that turns out after my abuses!

Oh, and I've boiled some chestnuts my dad gave me the other day. It's rather nice that he sometimes just delivers stuff. Always appreciated! I've been munching on a couple of the chestnuts. I don't think I've ever prepared them before. Searching on the net gave me no clear indication on how to prepare them except for the words "boil and peel" until my fave recipe site came to the rescue. I remember when that website was called SOAR - Searchable Online Archive of Recipes.

Cheshire has had a fit of enthusiasm and has managed to clean out Dragonchrome's room. The bed sheets are covered with catfur, like *everything* else in the house, but it does mean that if a single person comes over then they can have a bit of privacy if they stay over. Rather nice for the post dinner party videos (invader zim on a baaaad hangover is an experience and a half).

Covenant is mere days away. Ack! Plus Sin will be open afterwards with one of the band members DJing too. *sigh* :-) Tell me again, who needs sleep?
