So, today, when Centurian rang AGAIN, I said "Please will you GET ME OFF THIS FUCKING LIST?????" in the vague hope that this time, unlike the last four times, they would actually act and get me off the fucking list. She hung up on me.

Fine. I jump online, and look up the yellowpages. There's only one Centurion roofs in there. So I ring them and go off at them for a while too, telling them how I feel HOUNDED and I'm really starting to get Pissed Off about the whole thing, and then she asks for my contact details to get me off the database, and I said why, you've already got them, keep whining and crying for a bit before eventually I relent and give them my phone number.

Long story short, I also said that if they ring again, I will come out and cry on them in person. I think I should never hear from them ever again.

Finally.

I know there are plans afoot to try and get a "do not call" register up and running (but like anything that isn't related to terroism legislation it will take forever) but yes I'm pretty sure you can get a nice Solicitors letter happening.

Might also be worthwhile getting supervisor's details *if* they ring again.

We're already on the DSAA do not call list, both of us. However, obeying the DSAA guidelines is only voluntary.

I used to have the same problem with the Modern Group. If it wasn't roller shutters, it would be home security, roof restoration or whatever other service they offer. They were obviously targetting houses in my area (in Perth) as I'd get a phone call or a cold caller at the door about once every 3 weeks. They stopped calling once I mentioned harassment :)

You could try saying "Romans, go home!" and then see if they can tell you the correct Latin for it.

we definitely have a Do Not Call register, it is illegal to call someone after they have requested to be removed. I thought it was a federal law, but perhaps it is a state (NSW) one.

Certainly a lot of documents, applications etc had to be redrafted, it is illegal to collect someone's details without permission, and it is illegal to use them for any reason other than the original purpose. Details also can't be sold to other (ie marketing) companies without being liable for either party to be prosecuted.

The problem is that these days, you can buy the White Pages on a CD, which you can then sort by suburb, and just hire a gumby to ring. We're both already on the DSAA no call list, but I believe it's a guideline and not mandatory in any legal sense yet.

Speaking as a telemarketer, they were very rude.

I have a special knack with Centurion telemarketers. Three of the last four have hung up on me.

One was astounded when she asked if I was the house owner, and I said "That's none of your business." "What?!?" "I said, that's none of your business," and she hung up on me.

*grin*

see I would have apologised first. Just because one is a telemarketer doesn't mean one has to put their manners on hold.

9 times out of 10 I'm the one that offers to put their number on our 'do not call' list to customers who reckon we phone too much...

It's a sucky job because so many people are so bad at it. If people were as polite as you, then it wouldn't be quite so fucked.
