I am really looking forward to a year without being on a Swancon committee or related to it. I'm not even sure if I'll ever come back to it. I sometimes get the feeling that I have taken all I can from Concoms for now, and if I come back it will be to learn something completely new again. And I have to say, I'm not really sorry to be not-involved next year. I've offered help with a potential con-com 2008. but I'm not even sure if I will be available then either. Things are happening and changing, and I have things to learn which I don't think can be found at a concom gathering. :-)
Books I had previous tried to read and failed, because it was not the right time, have been refound and re-started. Things include Cunt, and then Witch, A Personal Journey by Fiona Horne, although she seems to have revamped it and re-released it, and Wheels of Life, by Anodea Judith. All of these are books that have been floating around for ages (in some case years) and the Fiona one is not mine (must give that back one day) and just seemed to be unable to get into and read. Now, however, I think I'll be fine. :-) Cunt just seemed to chirpy. Chirpy chirpy chirp. :-) Perhaps I just like my political feminism to be a bit more depressing as well as uplifting. *grin* Reminded me of The Story of V, in that the first parts of the books are deconstructing the language in which we are currently immersed. I am missing a number of my books right now; I have a project I am working on and all my books are stacked DEEP. :-) Poor John is trying to help me but it's such a large task, and we have decided to varnish the bookshelves as we put them back, which means more time and space in transit. But we'll get there and I think it will be worth it.
Tonight we start our cake decorating course. We're both extremely excited!! It's going to be very very cool! Yay! I'll be feeding people the results for days I think... :-)
John and I have offered to make a cake for a certain couple's engagement party, so they had better start thinking of what they want it to be, if they want one! :-) Cakey cake cake!
Oh, and we will be going to the dinner at the Dusit Thai, but I can't remember if they have high chairs. It's not as if we can give Vinnie to Mum for Wednesday, Thursday, and then Sunday as well now can we!! :-)
Ok, sprog has awoken. I had better go and grab him and give him lots of hugs. :-)

Two years ago I'd have said ... I have to find *new* ideas, but yeah!
Three years ago, I would have said Hell yeah, I've already got a plan!!
:-)
Now, I just don't know!

Date: 2006-02-16 02:29 pm (UTC)From:My Mum is doing the traditional fruit cake thing so if you're feeling up to a choc mud cake that would be brilliant. I like the idea of two different types of cake. You can never have too many cakes I say! It also means that neither of you will be trying to make a cake that caters for all of our intended guests. The list is looking rather long.

Date: 2006-02-17 02:32 pm (UTC)From:no, not really. The "theme" is "an excuse to get lots of friends and family together to eat good finger food and drink good wine and by the way we got engaged"
Knock yourselves out.

It's also been re-released, I have here a "personal" journey but the new one is a "magickal" journey.
I expect there's stuff that's been added but not taken away.
