an empty-bellied, pointless creature which vaguely resembles a woman but hasn't yet been able to prove it.
Eep! You know what? I'm going to take issue with that statement.
I'm sorry that you don't yet have the child you want, but...
...on behalf of every single childless or childfree female friend I have, I couldn't let that description go unchallenged.
I have many female friends without children who are intelligent, vibrant, creative, powerful, generous, caring, sensitive, who contribute to their family/friends/community/workplace in hundreds of ways, including volunteer work, political activism, paid work, art, teaching, childcare...
You (or anyone else) are not pointless just because you don't have a child!
I apologise - I didn't mean to imply that childless women are pointless, I meant that I feel pointless, personally. I go to work. I come home. I clean up after my husband. People think they mean well when they say "So, are ya pregnant yet?" and, when I cringe and say "No" they then think it's acceptable to say "Oh, well, you're still young, why would you want to mess your life up like that anyway?" I get snappy when I'm depressed. I didn't mean to focus on me; I just wanted to rephrase. .I'm very happy for Sarah and John. :o) :o)
Tell them to fuck off. You should be good at that! It's none of their business!
In fact, nothing is any one else's business unless you want it to be!
There *must* be things in your life you are passionate about other than children, otherwise, even when you have the children, you lose yourself in the work. You find that all you do is work work work and you just end up ground down even more than you think you are now.
