callistra: Fuschia from Sinfest crying her heart out next to Hell's flames (Minifesto)
Many women experience a variety of premenstrual symptoms throughout their reproductive life. These symptoms are often accompanied by variations in the way we think and feel.
For any woman who has found herself becoming inexplicably angry or sad during her menstrual cycle, the possibility that her "time of the month" may be responsible is not news. But although a great deal of research has looked at the physiology of the menstrual cycle, very little work has delved into the role a woman's menstrual cycle can play in regulating emotions.

You are invited to participate in a research project being conducted by RMIT University. This study is investigating how premenstrual symptoms and mood are related and factors that may influence this relationship. As such, potential female participants who fall within the age ranges of 18 and 50 years of age are being made aware of the study and are invited to participate.

As an incentive for participating you will be rewarded through a draw of prizes such as: accommodation vouchers (e.g. The Grand Mecure Hotel, Hotel Sorrento, Sherbrooke Retreat of Olinda), massage vouchers (e.g. One of 10 Tranquility Aromatherapy Massages from Chirinka Natural Therapies; indulgent package at Peninsula Hot Springs) and natural therapy consultations (e.g. one of five consultations with Dr Andrew Francis, a herbalist at Warrandyte Herbal).

Eligibility Females between the ages of 18 and 50 years of age.

Exclusion Criteria:
· Subjects who are currently taking the birth control pill or within the last 3 months
· Subjects who plan are to become pregnant or were pregnant within the last year
· Subjects who are taking hormone replacement therapy

If you are interested in participating in this important and valuable research study, please contact Lauren Hateley (Principal Researcher) on s3126049 at student dot rmit dot edu dot au

I'd sign up for this, but if I go off the evening primrose - which, presumably they'd like me to cease taking for research purposes, the house may not be left standing and my family will flee for the bomb shelters!

:-)
I don't know - maybe email them and find out!
I joined up so I would get pregnant. It worked.
*grin*

I must be unusual - I never noticed any physical or emotional symptoms before my period (when off the pill) - just horrendous pain once it started, and pimples.

Then please sign up - they need to hear from people like you (who I consider normal) as well as people who do experience discomfort.

I've yet to detect any relationship between my emotions and my periods. (So much so, infact, that until 2004 I thought PMT/PMS was a myth made up by antifeminists. Then I had an experience with mood-changes-from-hormonal-contraception, and realised no, hormones really *could* make a dramatic difference.)

My periods tend to be quite erratic, tho - I'll have two periods in a 30 day period, or no period for 60, or even 90 days.

I certainly get unexplained sadness, crankiness - but I can usually map it to a lack of sleep, low blood sugar, stress at work, lack of social contact etc. etc.

So, I'm thinking of volunteering for the survey. I just sent off a query email.
