I just had a positive Coles shopping experience.

I haven't had a positive Coles Shopping experience for a long time. I only tend to go to them when I want something quite specific and they almost never have it.

It would be awful to live in the backblocks somewhere and have to rely on Coles/Woolies when trying to make exotic food and recipes.

The best thing about the Positive Coles Shopping Experience is that I went no where near a Coles store.

I tend to shop at Woolworths, because if I shop at my local independent supermarket it costs about 30% more to do my groceries.

Fresh produce I tend to buy independently, however, and I have a sensational local grocers.

I've started taking one of the kids down to the farmer's market every Sunday for fresh fruit and veg. It's heaps of fun and very friendly. I prefer Woollies to Coles hands down every time, and the "You'll Love" branding sends shivers up my spine every time I think about it. Makes me instantly argumentative.

This is us. And we only have a Safeway (aka, Woolies) here. We have an IGA, but it's even less stocked. I miss the city for this reason.

I would have never thought that living in the country would have a downfall like this, but this is the one thing that bugs me about living this far out. We have a big Safeway in town (aka, Woolies, but Victorians just think they're special and it's got a different name here and it's just WRONG! It's not "Safeway, the fresh food people"!) and a smaller IGA, but I just can't find the stuff I want! I actually go out of my way when I'm down in the city to *gasp* go to Coles, because they actually STOCK Asia At Home, which carries the kind of Green Curry paste that I love. There's a "farmers market" once a month here, but there are hardly any producers there, and it's mostly handicrafts, bread, a bit of wine, preserves etc. There's a newer market, where I've noticed there's one person who's there selling farm stuff, but the lack of independent shops is really apparent up here now, especially that one of the two butchers in town has closed.

I miss the Subiaco Railway Markets, if you can believe it. Of course, I also miss the Queen Vic Markets down in Melbourne MASSES, especially since we lived basically walking distance from it for a few months.

I barely go into Coles these days. I used to go for one specific item that I couldn't get anywhere else. And then the 'You'll love...' brand stuff came in and displaced the Farmland brand and the item I went in for no longer exist. Have to buy more expensive stuff now. But at least I can get that in the shops 5 mins walk away from my place.
