Apparently last night some news programme was saying that Coles or Woolworths were talking about discounts to encourage people to buy certain items?

Is there any one who knows what programme this was on? I have been googling and reading ABC news and News.com.au but no one seems to have it, unless it's a mutated story about the big fine that Coles has to pay for being a bully.

I'm pretty sure -in NSW at least - it is to do with cheap alcohol trying to put out small liquor operators. I think there was a fine involved. It was in the news last week so I have already forgotten it ;-)

this was on today tonight, i think, and was about discount schemes encouraging shoppers to buy certain brands, ie, buy enough and you get points to trade in for cash later on. but they couldn't quite make up their minds what they were railing against; one second it was the cheap home brands made overseas, the next it was the expensive big brands made, er, overseas. in one sentence, they accused the shops of discounting the big brands to make us buy them, but also discounting the australian brands to try to get them off the shelves. damn those discounters!

as usual, inflammatory scare "journalism" from the current affairs programs. these are the same programs that tell us that we can lose weight by shopping. brilliant.

Wooo! Loose weight by shopping! Buy, spend conSUME!!!!

I hate TV. I hate advertising. I hate media. I hate our societal gullibility. "Oh, I saw it on TV, it must be true." My friends and I can't possibly be the only people who are suspicious of this sort of thing.

*happy though, just ranty*

Yes, that was Today Tonight. Burger and fries television. They also show a lot of tenant-from-hell stories which I find annoying but will save that rant for own journal :-)

I've noticed a few things disappearing from Coles, like cheap Havarti cheese but not enough to be certain it's a plot.

Apparently Coles and Woolworths have decided to only carry a maximum of three brands of anything, and so will be removing lesser selling brands from their shelves. What gets me, is if they do this, then how do they know a newcomer won't become a best seller if they never give it a chance? And besides, I DON'T want Maggi, Kanton or Chicken Tonight style green curries, so what am *I* goint to be left with? (As an example.)

Megacorps suck ass.
