my best advice as a layperson who has had lots of breeding pets and has spent a good deal of time living on a farm is *try to not interfere in any way* in my experience any intervention seems to have resulted in a less than desired outcome, even when it seemed logical and well intentioned (hmm, I'm starting to see where my choice for home birth is coming from :) ).

although it looks like they are already big and fluffy and past the probable intervention stage anyway :)

The ducklings look way cute compared to our budgies , we're still waiting on them to get feathers .

One had quills coming through and now has its eyes open and has gotten bigger and the smaller baby one is still pink and ugly.

We feed the hatchlings oats and rice flakes, with warm water to make a gruel, to start with, then quickly move them onto duck starter mix from Cityfarmers.

And we've had problems with crows too, and lost four out of the last clutch of nine. No real answers there, except that Hansel and Gretel will get better to defending the little ones.
