I got mastitis again. It's so incredibly painful, every muscle and every bone in my body hurts. It's been 37 degrees, and I have been shivering and looking for a quilt and hot showers. The Le Leche League book suggests lying in bed and breast feeding all day long, so that's what I did, trying to feed as much as possible off the breast with the problem. I've been incoherent and the headache has been awful. And then, about an hour ago, the fever started to leave. I am coherent again. I can think. And the pain is leaving.

They still haven't told Mum what day she might be able to leave the hospital. More tests tomorrow.

Oh, but that sucks. ):

I am very pleased to hear this! (:

Here's hoping that your recovery continues apace.

I was thinking about you on the bus to work this morning while I was reading Learned optimism and it was talking about how most people are too into me me me, whereas we should be more into family and community and community-building.

I thought "S is really into family and community, she is doing all of the things that the author is saying that we should be doing." and generally thinking admiring and appreciative thoughts in your direction.

If the fever returns, or any symptoms, *go to a doctor*. No, really. Breasts are great, big manufacturers of Stuff for bacteria to grow in, and if the infection digs in, there's lot for it to eat, including *you*.

Mastitis is a bit like a UTI, in that (in theory) you can beat the infection by frequently flushing the system and keeping it clean that way, but it's important to know when to crawl to a doc for antibiotics, and that time is after 12 hours without improvemenent.

On a positive note, I had good results from kneeling on all fours on the bed, over the baby, and getting the breast to drain that way.

I'm at work tomorrow, so can't help in person, but you can ping me online if you want me to tell you to go to a doctor to talk.

Appointment was made yesterday for 2:30 today
:-)
I still have reddish, hot sections on the breast, so antibiotics, here I come!

Ow! Mastitis is _awful_! Worse even than wisdom teeth (if you let it go—or don't realise what's happening!)

Massage can also help, and the electric toothbrush is apparently the home ultrasound equivilent if it's still not going.

The good news is that you get better at identifying it starting, and I found that if I felt it was beginning, taking it easy and starting every feed on that side for a day usually rights it. But it took a while to 'get' that you really have to ease off!

yuk!
like Fe said really keep an eye on yourself - and do be prepared to go to drs cos it can get really bad. take it very very easy.

I'm at my folks today so could come and visit if you're up for that, or J&V can come visit there...

and fingers crossed that tests for your mum go ok...

Still crossing my fingers for your Mum.

Damn, mastitis sounds awful, I am glad that you're feeling better, and hope that it doesn't persist.
