I got mastitis again. It's so incredibly painful, every muscle and every bone in my body hurts. It's been 37 degrees, and I have been shivering and looking for a quilt and hot showers. The Le Leche League book suggests lying in bed and breast feeding all day long, so that's what I did, trying to feed as much as possible off the breast with the problem. I've been incoherent and the headache has been awful. And then, about an hour ago, the fever started to leave. I am coherent again. I can think. And the pain is leaving.

They still haven't told Mum what day she might be able to leave the hospital. More tests tomorrow.

If the fever returns, or any symptoms, *go to a doctor*. No, really. Breasts are great, big manufacturers of Stuff for bacteria to grow in, and if the infection digs in, there's lot for it to eat, including *you*.

Mastitis is a bit like a UTI, in that (in theory) you can beat the infection by frequently flushing the system and keeping it clean that way, but it's important to know when to crawl to a doc for antibiotics, and that time is after 12 hours without improvemenent.

On a positive note, I had good results from kneeling on all fours on the bed, over the baby, and getting the breast to drain that way.

I'm at work tomorrow, so can't help in person, but you can ping me online if you want me to tell you to go to a doctor to talk.

I still have reddish, hot sections on the breast, so antibiotics, here I come!
