Today started off pretty good. Kids and I went to a surprise birthday picnic, and had a great time, then came home and got ready to go to another birthday party. Chesh and I were quite excited by this; it was a friend's birthday, and we were all going to see Alice In Wonderland, and Chesh and I had booked tickets! We had babysitting organized, tickets booked and paid for, the on-call mobile phone given away for a couple of hours... no stress in the world, right?

The queue for the La Premier tickets seemed to take forever. I left Chesh waiting while I went and bought a bottle of water. We'd never been to La Premier before, so it was all a new adventure. Anyway, the group of LOTS before us racked off, and Chesh steps to the podium... and after a while I go to see what's going wrong, because something that's working doesn't take *this* long...

They couldn't find the booking. And then... they did find the booking. For yesterday. I'm incredibly unimpressed, since I know Chesh checked three times with me about the dates before he rung to book, so I *know* Chesh didn't stuff that up.

And they wanted to charge us extra for the 3D, which is fine, except NO ONE HAD TOLD US THAT and they should have when Chesh rang.

Anyway, they find us some tickets so we go upstairs, and I'm so upset and cranky I am livid still. We get ourselves a glass of wine each, and I tell Mynxii about how upset and cranky I am, and how i know it wasn't Chesh stuffing up as he confirmed times and dates three times etc, and we go in. I can see all our friends, but we seem to be in the last minute people-likely-to-want-to-bonk corner. We're away from every one, and there's a wall screening us from every one, and a set of stairs.

And then Chesh knocks over his glass of wine. We've been so excited and worked up about going to this movie, and it was all going so terribly horribly wrong. He goes and gets another wine, and they gave him the replacement wine for free, which we thought was really very nice.

We sit down and get comfortable, and I'm thinking "I should tweet about how upset I am at Hoyts right now," when some comes around and goes "Excuse me," and we're like "Huh?" I was thinking 'if he DARES to ask us to move or tell us we're in the wrong seats after the other lady seated us, I am going to start SCREAMING!'

Instead, he said "I was listening before, and I am one of the managers here, and I have had a chat to downstairs as well. We're very sorry about everything, and I promise we really will find out who took the phone call, and have a  it of a chat with tham about everything, and please, accept these. I hope you enjoy the movie." And gave us two free passes to come again! And it was so awesomely THOUGHTFUL that he'd thought to do this! I was so upset at the whole experience, and while it didn't fix everything, it has meant I am willing to try again.

I liked the decor and the feel of the la premier thing, and I want to try it out while we're not stressed and cranky and worried or covered with wine... and now it's possible. And to be honest, there's every chance we will become converts to this. We liked the extra space and the seats and having a nice glass of wine while watching a movie... it did feel nice. It was just the angsty stuff around it that was upsetting our moviegoing experience!

Way to go Hoyts! You've won my vote for customer service. He went out of his way to try and ensure that we give their service a fair hearing, especially since we weren't having the best time this time around. I'm here talking about it, and I think we'll be going la premier whenever we can in future.

The kids had an awesome time while we were gone, and I think [livejournal.com profile] amarillion  had a great time too!

glad to hear it all worked out well. A couple of years back my daughter and her friend went to Hoyts Garden City to see (forget what), possibly Harry Potter or some romance, and on the way out, my daughter's friend fell down the steps and sprained both ankles.
They were so swollen and looked so bad they could have been broken (plus she couldn't walk) and the Hoyts people were so scared, they did all the right first aid, called an ambulance and gave us all free tickets, which we used to see the next romance/fantasy or whatever was showing at the time.

That's smart business right there. I suspect they make such a comparatively huge profit from us ([livejournal.com profile] wildilocks and I rarely go anywhere else) that they'd be mad not to jump through hoops to try to ensure we kept coming back.

They could improve the food, though.

Yeah, we rarely get out due to sproglets, which is why we were so excited LOL
:-)

So glad that everything worked out in the end.

For me, in some ways, having it all go right after it all goes wrong makes it all a bit more memorable. I hope the same is true for you!

Yeah, it made a great story to tell LOL

So glad that it turned out OK! And you are right in that a premiere experience should start with customer service before plush seating.

I'm so glad they refunded you and sorry that the experience was all a bit stressful and upsetting. I enjoy La Prem a lot - but usually find it hard to justify the cost given I get a student discount. However, it's cheaper on Tuesdays, and for 3D films none of my discounty things work, so today at least it made sense to pay the extra to be with everyone else, when going into the main cinema was only going to save me $5 or so?
