Steampunk * Victoriana * Futurism

We're proud to announce WASTELANDS II, AGE OF IRON will be October 18,
and 19th 2008 at the Good Earth Hotel in Perth, WA.

Wastelands II, Age of Iron is a two day convention focusing on the
futures of yesterday, and the glories of tomorrows that never were.
There will be two streams over two days. including workshops, panels,
and presentations. Discounts for people dressed in theme.

Elements covered will include Multimedia, Writing, Graphic Design,
Art, Costuming and other areas. Events included will also cover other
areas of interest not strictly tied to the "core" theme.

Our Guests of Honour is Nick Stathopoulous, multiple award winning,
Hugo-nominated, and Archibald Award Finalist Artist and all round
great guy. He is incredibly talented and one of the most sought after
artists for book covers in Australia.

Our Local Guest of Honour is Alisa Krasnostein. Alisa is the CEO of
Twelfth Planet Press and very active in the small press industry in
Australia. She is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of
Australian Specfic In Focus (ASiF!). Alisa's projects are too numerous
to mention, including a goal to read over 5,000 short stories this
year as well as run her own publishing company.

Fan Guest of Honour is Tommo Eitelhuber. Tommo has been very active in
the fan community, and been endlessly helpful to a number of Swancon
committees. He's also extremely passionate about music and his new
wife.

Current draft program is up and it's just awesome! Please check it
out, and if you would like to present a panel, show off something
interesting, volunteer to be on one of the suggestions, or even just
help out during the con, please let us know! We're getting excited
around here, and we hope to see you there!

Please feel free to cross post, email, talk, or broadcast info on this convention as far and wide as you like!

Round two was almost the final round...
Mum tried to ring me as the kids were both unhappy and she had had sad news
We cried during some of the panels
We avoided the sex and violence panels
we came home early
Mum's sad news made me bawl lots and lots
I got a wonderful card from a friend :-)
I'd like to point out that while we left after lunch, we went through seven papers in that time and two social times. Good god.
The papers thing is interesting - it's so much more focused and draining, I think, than the three person panel. We saw some really awesome art and performance stuff yesterday which helped, but spending all this time listening to incredibly complex things is just exhausting, amazing, and inspiring. I felt like I got my money's worth between yesterday and Wednesday already.

DING DING!

Time for round three! This will be the final round regardless! I think we're going the distance!

Conference going well. Will put on kilos by end of it (catering is good!) and speech went well. *happy*
:-)
Got some good questions, which is excellent because I was worried I was painting too idyllic a picture, and my first question was: what goes wrong?
:-)
Awesome

Have caught up on sleep dep a bit. Love slowcooker. *hugs slowcooker*

Too tired still to talk in other than dot points.

DING DING!
Off for round 2 of the conference. Will I last or will it be a knockout??

Speech is begun. I have a framework for it.

Crocodile porn is now on my machine, so I can work on it for [profile] black_samvara.

Possible slashy work in the works.

Slashcon report.... hmmmmm

It's been .... 12 years since I was in uni. Why oh why did I decide I would do a speech at UWA??

I have readings.  And worse, they're self assigned

*sob*

*hee!*

What a great party! We had such a good time we want to get every one out for another one! Gosh
:-)

- Clean
- sweep
- feed children and maybe change their bottoms occasionally :-)

- make chicken and onion filling
- make hummus
- make yoghurts
- bake beetroot
- make mince for mini turkish pizzas
- make dinner

- prep chicken wings and start marinating
- make kebabs for turkish style kebabs
- start the sweet potato salad
- maybe start the aubergine and chick pea salad?
- Prep prep prep
- Wash dishes
- Go Out tonight
- get inside and outside ready for company and kids
- filling for meat cigars (if I do them)

- As a reward for doing at least five things, I will get some writing done.
:-)

Plan for tomorrow:
- make dough for pizzas - 200 degrees
- cook chicken wings - grilling
- prep filo pastry for chicken and onion pie
- roll cigars - 180 degrees
- cook pie - 180 degrees
- clean and wash dishes

I won't be doing a megacookoff with the Japanese next month, simply because japanese is so fiddly. I have no interest in cooking up 10 serves of oyakudon for example. All of the North African food has been great crowd pleasers with prep I can do over the course of a couple of days. I kind of wish there was a friend who could come and play cook with me all day and tomorrow, helping raise the kids and make meat sausages and food and share the task. Village life is so easy to romanticize. :-)

Feeling Low

May. 2nd, 2008 04:09 pm
callistra: Fuschia from Sinfest crying her heart out next to Hell's flames (Brace yourself Captain Jack)
My hand hurts. My ankle throbs. I feel kinda numb and dis-associated with everything. My friend was ready and braced to go to jail. He has put his affairs in order, and everything is done except for his will. He pleaded guilty in February, and this morning was supposed to be his sentencing.

I saw him during the week and he was OK. Just... waiting. Glad it will all be over. That he can pay and get it over with and then start to rebuild.

Except they've moved the sentencing back another two months. Now he has to rebuild himself enough to function during this time while waiting, once again, to be locked away.

And once again, I'm caught between too many conflicting emotions, and a real sadness that things have turned out this way. I'm angry at the system which can take a guilty plea from months ago and still not have a resolution by now. He hasn't appealed a single thing, and pleaded guilty at the first possible moment. What sort of delays can there possibly be? I just want to cry. I've spent too much time this year crying already, I think! Every time I seem to blog these days I'm crying or near crying.

Here's her info lifted from her own journal:

Still pregnant! Baby seems to have dropped sometime on Saturday night/Sunday morning. This is Good (tm) as it means Sunday was my best day. Enough sleep, more comfortable, and an ability to stand for longer than ten seconds at a time is always good.

Night's Edge went well. I was actually more social than I expected to be! Made it to a couple of CyPEC stuff, but managed to miss most of the Night's Edge stuff (pout) but you get that. Spent a lot of time sleeping, or trying to sleep, or eating....

Plenty of problems with the hotel. The convention/conference side of things was fine, no problems there, but betweeen the hotel and the restaurant, obviously customers represent "work" and "inconvenience" and do not require any sort of "manners" at all. But next year we will be somewhere else, so it will all be better. :-)

I'm really proud of Chesh and Babalon for doing an awesome job. They put so much work into things, plus looking after babies and each other and me, this weekend was one of the hardest weekends I've ever been through, and I feel that we really pulled things off. I'm incredibly proud of both of them, and The Big V as well, who was patient and lovely and sweet natured for most of the con (except when Mummy said "NO" on the lolly and softdrink front after days of lollies and softdrinks LOL)

I also want to thank battblush's boys for playing with Vinnie, he wanted to play pool for the rest of the night in that pub he loved it (and them) so much. This is the first time he's ever played with kids that age, and I really, really, know he loved it. It was also great to catch up with every one I hoped to, and more. I expected my mental energy to run out faster than the physical energy, and am thankful every one made leeway for me. Thanks to our guests of honour, and we're already looking forward to next year! What are we, fucking insane???

Yup.
