Hmmm. Went shopping today. I feel.... relaxed and like I have time for a change. So, we bought some food....

I bought a couple of ingredients and have made a chocolate fudge cake with apricots in it and it's pretty damned good. John and I were chatting, and have come up with a baaaad baaaaaad idea - Steak Kilpatrick. We love oysters kilpatrick, and were wondering what it would be like if we cooked up a steak and poured oysters, bacon and wocestershire sauce over the top and served it like that ... our mouths started watering, so we're having a trial run tonight, but with tinned oysters. I have a sneaking suspicion that fresh would be better (for a start they would hold together; I expect a certain level of dissolving out of the tinned ones) and be more appealing to the eye. However, we might be totally wrong and it will be totally horrible, in which case the investment in time and fresh oysters was worth missing. (After all, that's a one hour drive to a seafood shop on top of the money...)I'm planning on serving this with a gently steamed bunch of pak choy, and maybe a nice salad with hydropnic vine tomatoes.

For lunch, I was feeling enthused, so I got some eggplants already chargrilled, chargrilled my own capsicum, and made vegetarian pizzas, and topped them with an egg. I don't think the egg worked as well as I'd hoped; next time I'll skip that bit, but it was all good. I had a vision, and almost made it happen. :-) I think there might be a bit of a lean towards vegies in future *grin*

Anyway, must run, have committee meeting.

A good rule of thumb with food is if something sounds delicious then somebody has probably done it already. What you've suggested is what I'd call a carpetbagger steak. Versions of this can be found here (http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=45498), here (http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=45497), and here (http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=45496). Enjoy.

While honey and soy is a standard stir-fry concept, I like doing it with soy sauce and Barenjager. While I find it both sounds and is delicious -- not to mention the standard advantages for the cook testing/sampling the ingredients while cooking -- I've not seen mention of my version anywhere.

Abd you pour it into stir fries?

I'm coming to your place for dinner next time I come to Melbourne!

I have a bottle in the fridge for convenience. It is very strong, so it doesn't take very much at all to give a delicious honey flavour. Too much and it gets a bit too sweet ... I can see why from the sugar content listed on the URL you gave.

And you're welcome to come to dinner sometime.

Rockin'! Free food! Yay!

However, to try and get to Melbourne again without having any sort of my own income, I'm going to *need* to scam free food.
:-)

*hugs*

Back at ya and Karen too. You'll need to tell me if you're allergic to anything before I start cooking though. I tend to get enthused with cooking and then I get enthoozled and then it's all a huge mess.

By the way, know anything about knots?

Maybe you could start flogging things on eBay. My spam tells me that's the way to make money!

I'm not allergic to any foods, but my attitude to seafood varies from mild dislike to disgust.

Knots: Umm. A measurement of speed used by watercraft.
